To Whom It May Concern
August 1, 2011
Dear Reader,
It is my great pleasure to write this letter of recommendation for Miss Breanna Mitchell who is
likely applying to your establishment. I have known Breanna professionally for the past two
years when Breanna came to work at the city as a high school GIS apprentice. At the time, I was
the GIS Manager for the City of Woodstock.
Breanna’s performance was stunning not only in how fast she was able to consume college level
self-paced training materials in this highly technical field but also how completely technically
competent she was in what she had consumed with little or no coaching. Breanna has
exemplified leadership in her position at Woodstock by taking the initiative to go the extra mile,
seeking out weaknesses in methodologies for performing work, and recommending feasible
solutions to improve processes. It was rewarding for me to see Breanna’s leadership abilities and
technical skills develop as she progressed throughout her apprenticeship. After 6 months she was
able to discuss intelligently and with great depth of understanding some of the most complex
topics in the GIS field.
For Breanna, it was more than simply getting a job complete, it was about getting a job
exquisitely. I never had to check up on her to make sure her assigned tasks were completed. Her
work ethic is second to none. I have yet to see her not meet a goal she has set for herself, both
professionally and academically. On top of her learning and technical ability, she has a very
amiable disposition that leaves those that interact with her feeling good about the interaction.
Upon graduating from high school, Breanna had shown such and unprecedented level of expertise
and drive that she was offered a full time job with the city in a position usually reserved for
college graduates with a Bachelors of Science in Geographic Information Science.
Breanna’s achievements, goals, leadership and work ethic make her a highly competitive
candidate for any position that she sets her mind to go after. It is without reservation that I give
her my highest and strongest recommendation for any position in which she is a candidate.

Sincerely,
Timothy F.
